It's not quite as simple as what it sounds like you're looking for, but it's probably the best balance between ease of use and power for your purposes. play with the way the clips are mixed together, add effects to taste, and you're done. Strikes me that you could load your stems into the program, and have each instrument animate a different video clip. Animate the size, rotation or position of a clip or make effects dance to the beat." (taken from their website). The program I have- Resolume Avenue 3- "an do audio FFT analysis to make any parameter bounce to the music. If you want something more sophisticated than what you get out of screensaver-type stuff, you'll probably have to shell out some cash. To answer the OP's question, your best way forward depends on what you want out of your visuals. I set up ableton to send MIDI to Resolume Avenue 3- it makes for a suprisingly powerful combination. That's funny widdly- I just did something really similar for school. also, nulsoft (ie, maker of winamp, shoutcast and reaper) probably has some cool stuff too. you will certainly learn this way, and so be able to make informed decisions about what other video gear to invest in (cameras, projectors, modules, vj gadgets, etc).Īs far as cool visual authoring sw tools go, gforce sw (not the company that makes mtron, btw, but some other guy) screensaver used to have a really killer effects kit and scripting framework for real cheap, like 20 or 30 $ I think, that they were trying to make useful for live performance.

So i think you are wise to experience and experiment with software initially. i am planning to build an lxz visionary system for which a typical module costs $350-400 and a typical system is 8-10 modules at around 14 or 16 HP average width, for example. It will be a considerable investment, both in terms of cost and in terms of rack space - which still seems to be a chronic issue fir many of us despite signs that things may be getting better if all these cool new case designs ever hit the market).
and it looks like there will be 2 different companies making modules (at first - will be exciting to see what some of the established players in euro format come out with afterwards!).
You may want to consider the video synthesis modules that will be coming out later this summer.
